What is Microwave Cooking DB?
Microwave Cooking DB is a database of foods containing instructions for cooking. The instructions are tied to bar codes, which are read by a scanner connected to an oven. You can scan a food item using a scanner and the microwave will find out instructions for cooking from the database.
Who created Microwave Cooking DB?
Nathan Broadbent created Microwave Cooking Database. Nathan is an application developer who does cool projects in his spare time.
Why was Microwave Cooking DB created?
It all started with a thread on Reddit. There was a guy who suggested that food items should have QR codes that can instruct the microwave exactly what to do. This way the microwave could automatically heat foods to their optimal temperatures. Nathan Broadbent liked the idea and modified his oven to cook automatically.
He used a Raspberry Pi to smarten up his oven. He attached a barcode scanner to his microwave that looks up cooking instructions from an online database. There weren’t any online microwave cooking databases around, so he created this cooking database to store cooking instructions. He also made the code of smart oven public. You can check out the code on Github.
